Pour la 5ème année, voici le bilan de 2009 des chroniqueurs d’Eklektik. Encore une fois, peu de consensus, peut-être est ce que les goûts de chacun d’entre nous se sont encore diversifiés et dispersés parmi les inombrables albums sortis cette année, ou que cette année 2009 fut un moins bon cru en terme d’albums majeurs, chacun se fera son opinion.

Il n’y a guère que Mastodon qui se retrouve sur 5 des tops 10 de la rédaction pour sortir un peu du lot, il faut dire que le groupe a bien su se renouveler avec un quatrième album qui marque leur assimilation assumée de l’univers progressif. Se partagent ensuite la 2ème place du podium Kylesa, qui aura ravi les déçus du Mastodon avec un album lui aussi le plus mélodique de leur discographie, et Zu, avec un album de jazz aux rythmes radicaux et barrés dont la puissance les rapproche du metal. Ils sont suivis par l’album du retour fracassant de Coalesce, condensé d’énergie metal/hardcore brute, acre et au son toujours aussi unique, et le dernier album de Dredg, qui malgré une évolution vers des sonorités encore plus pop et joyeuses aura su combler les amateurs de rock sophistiqué.
S’ensuivent une série d’albums cités 2 fois parmi les 14 tops 10, qui abordent des styles des plus variés : hip hop, avec Cage, death metal avec Teitanblood, Kickback en hardcore, Isis et Giant Squid en post-hardcore, grindcore avec Agoraphobic Nosebleed, pop alternative avec I Am X et Rome, affiliés black metal avec Altar of Plagues et Solstafir, et metal/hardcore diversifié avec Keelhaul et Converge.
